This is a must read!

I was just going around searching for other blogs because i am sick of forums. It seems like forums have people who either have no clue on what they are talking about or just posting because in the sense they like to see if they can get their scores up with posts of "that is so cool!",

well yeah.. umm thanks people!

  Any who

I have gone to searching for blogs now (because people who have blogs, for the most part, have more time, information and interest invested while writing about their specialties)

I came upon a blogger (while searching for houseplant blogging) who not only has a wealth of information about houseplant care but has a little bit of information on blogging etiquette, that i am sad to say, i did not know about until i read his entries.

first off i apologize to anyone i might have offended in the way i have posted in the past when referring to some of the info i have on here.

Second, if anyone knows of a post that is against any etiquette  standards then please inform me so i could rewrite it or withdraw it from my blog.

Back to this interesting and informative site tho.

I came across Mr. Brown Thumb and he is a must read! I could have spent hours on there this morning finding information on unknown (to me) houseplants and houseplant care.

Things i have learned from his site just this morning…

- what are the most easy houseplants

-succulent prorogations

-a list of low light plants

AND MUCH MORE!

Please check it out if you want some new and interesting lessons from someone who has learned them from experience.

I would have spent more time on there but the site gave me so many ideas that i now have a lot of things to do with my plants today!

THANK YOU MR. Brown Thumb!

Bamboo maintenance

maintenance of my bamboo is a monthly thing. I try to change the water and wash the rocks monthly. Then once a year (yesterday) i did the whole shebang.

I have the oldest bamboo in its original pot that my parents gave me for x-mas about 5 years back. It is beautifully tall and i want my whole house to have lots of bamboo so i have been handling it with kid gloves.

so as for the maintenance i did to it last year, well i first took the parent plant out, cut off a few branches to propagate new plants and placed those in just plain water without rocks. well the parent plant now has produced new branches. but i never got around to putting in rocks on last years cuttings. SO i have done this so far

cut off the new branches for propagation

cleaned up the parent plant and washed out the rocks

put rocks into last years cuttings (hopefully they will survive)

then planted the new cutting in rocks and have them in a waterfall in my kitchen. :)

i started with 5 stalks, now i have 10 and hope to have more next year.

Recon cache letter/bill organizer.

I have been wanting to organize all of the cllection of mail that lies on our half wall. It seems that no matter how many times i clean it it get messy again, but here is a solution i want to try.

wall hanging bills

Ideas for adjustments would be

-make the sides more rigid so it does not fold and hang oddly.

-make straps or pockets for cell phones and other items with chargers,

-make a way to have the charger attatched.

-decorate to match interior..

-possible place to have live plant :)

Creative paper working.

I ran into this little gem of an idea this morning and thought it would be fun to try ( i will post my attempt later)

But this is a wonderful way to do a small part of recycling and reusing of your junk mail or the newspaper ads we toss.  I think this could be done by most people, not too hard and it would be a good one for the older children to do too. I think things like this should be embraced more because it is something you can do with little to no money unlike a lot of the other crafts that bring you to the point of buying out an entire craft store just to get started. Please people remember, use what you have on hand first. It will save you money. then when you are done with that then move on to other things. If you stick with what you have on hand it will force you to use your imagination and expand your mind and talents.

but enought with my rant!

Here is what you'll want to see from A little hut

Simplicity people!

I have been a big fan of Keeping things simple. I believe a table is to eat off of, needs to be a top with legs nothing special. We need to get away from the intricate things and get back to basics! How many people have bought a couch that has so many little puckers and curves and so on where you pay 1000's of dollars for and it goes out of style in a few years?

JUST STOP IT NOW!

I love simple. less clutter.

I am in love with this couch from Jasper Morrison LTD. I am not sure about prices for their stuff but click around on their site. Nice clean designs. Nice simple work.

She makes it look so easy!

Great work! I am so interested in reading more from this woman. she seems to have a great talent for sewing and also for instructing. She made it feel like I, too, could do it myself.

Maybe it is time I took on something like this before I settle and try to buy something new. I cannot see myself buying anything unless I need to.

Make your bathroom appear larger!

I have a very efficient bathroom. It is small, very small. I do not like large bathrooms at all. It just gives me the free space to pack with clutter. But with a small bathroom it seems odd to jam an entire fiberglass unit in it. It takes up too much space. We have been thinking about going with a simple shower unit and no tub but that will only free up 3 sq ft of floor space for the most part. But here is a solution that makes you feel that there is more space. plus it is different and cute! There are so many other ideas on this website too! it is a must see for the bathroom and other plumbing ideas.

Window treatment ideas.

My friend April just gave me a juicy lead on some cute window treatment solutions. She has issues with a specific window in her house due to size and how it is hard to fit curtains for, at least with store bought..

She pointed me to diyideas.com

There is a small section on window treatments which also include one that is cheap and easy !!!

who would have thought of this? i think this is great because it saves you 5-50$ in a unique style curtain rod

Shoe solution!

Many, many, many ideas from a wonderful and helpful site called Not Martha

Here is a solution for the shoes that collect by the door. Instead of using ugly trees and ugly racks that tip and get out of place

this is perfect. !

I am SEW jealous!

I am jealous that this person has such a beautiful crafting room. I am also jealous that she is so organized. I am just down right jealous that she has a room of her own! You know what i have at the moment? all of my crafting stuff tossed into totes that are unlabeled in the basement. *sigh* maybe someday !

But until then i will just imagine i have this room

Check out the other shots of it on her website
